چکیده

In this article, the incremental searcher satisfaction model for Information Retrieval is introduced. In this model, documents are not presented according to decreasing relevancy only, but also on the level of novelty in the context of the documents previously presented. Documents which are judged to be insuuciently surprising (according to a searcher determined threshold) are not presented to the searcher. This is especially useful for Internet applications (such as search engines). Important properties of this model are discussed, such as the relation between the reductional eeect and the order of presentation.

The Incremental Searcher Satisfaction Model for Information Retrieval

In this paper, the incremental searcher satisfaction model for information retrieval is introduced. In this new model, documents are not only presented according to decreasing relevancy, but also on the level of novelty in the context of the documents previously presented. Documents which are judged to be insufficiently surprising (according to a searcher determined threshold) are not presented...

Multiobjective Memetic Estimation of Distribution Algorithm Based on an Incremental Tournament Local Searcher

A novel hybrid multiobjective algorithm is presented in this paper, which combines a new multiobjective estimation of distribution algorithm, an efficient local searcher and ε-dominance. Besides, two multiobjective problems with variable linkages strictly based on manifold distribution are proposed. The Pareto set to the continuous multiobjective optimization problems, in the decision space, is...

HCI and Information Search: Capturing Task and Searcher Characteristics Through 'User Ability to Specify Information Need'

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is all about the way in which people interact with computer systems. This paper focuses on the cognitive aspects of HCI when a user is searching for information, so as to facilitate effective user interactions with vast amounts of available information. Search engines provide a ‘one-size-fits-all’ model, which do not adequately cater to the differing needs of se...

Economic order quantity model for growing items with incremental quantity discounts

Certain inventory items are living organisms, for example livestock, and are therefore capable of growing during the replenishment cycle. These items often serve as various saleable food items downstream in supply chains. The purpose of this paper is to develop a lot sizing model for growing items if the supplier of the items offers incremental quantity discounts. A mathematical model is derive...
